A savings deposit provides security

Investing offers longer-term prospects for higher returns than a demand deposit or a term or savings deposit. But with investing, the value of your investments may decrease in the interim. A savings deposit offers more security in the shorter term: you get your deposit back with interest at the expiry date. Part of your deposit is also covered by the deposit guarantee scheme*.

What exactly is a deposit?

A savings deposit or term deposit is a form of savings where you put a certain amount on a savings account for a fixed period of time at a predetermined interest rate. You usually get a higher interest rate than on a demand deposit account. This is possible because your bank can count on having your deposit at its disposal for a fixed period of time and thus can invest the amount in short-term debts on the money market.

What is the difference between a savings deposit and a term deposit?

Actually, there is no difference. Both are forms of savings with an agreed, fixed term with a fixed, agreed interest rate and a fixed amount of money (deposit). Some banks call deposits with a term of up to one year 'term deposit' and longer term deposits 'savings deposit'. We only use the term Savings Deposit.

What terms and currencies does InsingerGilissen offer?

You can take out a Savings Deposit with us for three, six, nine or twelve months. And do you want your Savings Deposit in another currency than euro? For example in American dollars or British pounds? Then please contact us. We can offer you a proposal and attractive interest rates in many currencies.

What about taxes?

Your Savings Deposit Account, like other savings and investments, falls in the Netherlands into ‘Box 3’ of the Income Tax. You can find more about this on the website of the Belastingdienst (Tax Office, information in Dutch).

Can I still access my money if I suddenly need it?

Typical for a savings deposit is the agreed term and fixed interest rate. Nevertheless InsingerGilissen does allow early withdrawals, but we do charge fees for charges for withdrawals before the agreed expiry date. Exact information about this can be found in the Savings Deposit conditions, which are part of the Premium Renterekening conditions

How can I take out a Savings Deposit?

You can do so through your Client Advisor at InsingerGilissen. Don't have one yet? Please fill in the form and we'll get in touch with you.

Can I ‘roll over’ my Savings Deposit?

Yes, you can. When you take out a Savings Deposit with us, you can transfer the deposit plus the credited interest into a new Savings Deposit, with the same or a different term, at the then current deposit rate. This is called a rollover.

What is the current deposit rate at InsingerGilissen?

The interest rate on the institutional money market is the basis for the deposit rate we can offer you on a Savings Deposit. The money market interest rate depends on many factors and can change daily. At the top of this page you will find as an indication the interest rates for an InsingerGilissen Savings Deposit in Euros of a recent date. Please contact us to learn what interest rate we can offer you on a newly to be opened Savings Deposit for the currency(s) and term(s) of your choice (3, 6, 9 or 12 months). This may be higher or lower than the interest rates shown.

An overview of our (variable) return rates on demand savings accounts can be found here.

*) Which deposit guarantee scheme is applicable?

InsingerGilissen is a bank with a long history in the Netherlands and is now part of the Luxembourg-based Quintet Private Bank (Europe) S.A. Savings entrusted to us are therefore protected by the Luxembourg statutory deposit guarantee scheme.
